Narrative
report is one of evaluation model. It
describes student’s progress in written form.
The content displays student’s attitude toward a lesson during the
learning process. It also explains level of student’s mastery in material has
been learned. Teachers also put their
hope and suggestion for better learning of student.
Narrative
report isn’t just writing. Teacher needs to learn how to write so it’s nice to
read. Teacher should watch out the diction carefully. Choosing positive and
effective word is required in this case. May be it’s quite easy to have
positive word for good students but I think it’s different for bad students. Delivering bad information should be covered
by good words in order avoiding parents’ hurtful and humiliation. It doesn’t
mean hiding a fact but package written language to grow up deeper trust and
encourage parents to gain active participation for improving student’s ability.
“It is quite
difficult”. That was the words bear in my mind at the first time I should make
a narrative report. I never have
previous experience writing it but I must make it because the school where I
work require it. It was a new thing for me; of course it could be new
experience. At the first, I started to look for some narrative examples in web.
Then, I saw my student’s progress note. I began writing based on the note. When
I stuck in finding suitable word for a student, I would take a look at
narrative example. Here are some narrative examples for my students.
Tora has shown
good achievement of English lesson covered this semester. Tora has demonstrated
a strong grasp of grammar concept. He is able to differ “be”, irregular, and
regular verb and using them into past tense sentences correctly. He displays
advanced speaking skill. His fluency, pronunciation, and intonation are great.
He has a well-developed vocabulary, and is beginning to use self-correction
strategies with his own writing.
Tora is conscientious about completing
assignment on time. He is independent student and never flustered by a
difficult activity. He often ask question to make sure his answer has been
right.
Tora is a good participator in
class. Having more time to read English story is good for getting another new
vocabularies. It is a pleasure to have Tora in my class. You are excellent, Tora.
This
narrative is for awesome student in English class during the lesson.
Kim is a diligent
student whose seriousness shows interest in learning. The level of effort he
puts in learning is commendable. He is never late with an assignment. Kim
displays a strong number sense and is an active and enthusiastic in English
activity.
Kim is a good listener. He still
needs more practice expressing idea orally. Kim’s grammar is an area where has
to be improved. He is sometimes confused classifying regular and irregular
verb. He is nice in expressing past habit on paper.
Kim is a quite but effective leader
in a group activity. He is also a cooperative team member. He needs opportunity
to be more expressive. Reading some English book is a recommended activity in
the next semester to obtain well-developed vocabulary and improving reading comprehension.
We all value Kim’s presence in grade 4. You
are amazing, Kim.
This narrative is for student who has great
attitude toward the lesson but still need enough practice to be excellent in
English.
During most
classroom activities, Rosi strives to listen and engages in learning. She has
had a successful semester keeping up with assignment, and always taking care to
show her work in a neat and organized manner. She is never flustered by
difficult activity.
Rosi is good in classifying irregular
and regular verb and also using appropriate “be” in past tense sentences
correctly. She needs more time and practice to understand how to telling the
time perfectly. She is very good in expressing idea and feeling on paper but
she still needs encouragement to be more expressive in expressing idea orally.
I hope Rosi can have initiative to ask
questions when she does not understand a concept although the teacher is not
near to her. Reading some English book is a recommended activity in the next
semester to obtain well-developed vocabulary. Well done, Rosi.
This
one is a narrative for the student who has good focus and diligent, but still
needs time to be more expressive in speaking. it also mentions the one who is
shy for asking question.
Meisya often tries to
finish her assignment. During the class, sometimes when she does not understand
a concept, she would repeatedly ask question.
Meisya is able to respond simple
commands. She demonstrates her willingness to read passage but experience
difficulties in comprehension and providing written answer on the content she
has read.
Meisya needs much opportunities and assistance covering area of English
material for this semester. Encourage
her practicing reading, writing, speaking are required. Having some approaches
to be confidence in her ability is still needed. Keep on trying, Meisya.
This
narrative is for the student who needs a lot of practice.
It is a
pleasure seeing Bian demonstrates good attitude in learning. He tries
completing his school work. He has been engaged with the lesson although he
still needs reminding to be focus sometimes. He looks happier when getting
praise for every work he has done.
Bian is
good delivering idea orally. But he needs assistance in editing his written
work. He has good fluency. He is able
to comprehend a passage of text but is careless providing written answers in
depth.
Having some effort for a neat handwriting is still needed. You are great, Bian.
This
narrative explains the student who has changed his bad attitude toward the
lesson and likes having appreciation for everything he does.
Hopefully,
this writing will be useful. Never give up learning and practicing new thing
although it is hard at the first.
